This is a mood board compiling images of typical tools and mechanisms you would find in a shed/garage.
Using the references I drew up some thumbnails, to experiment with different ideas of how the weapon would look and function.
To spice things up a bit more, I decided to a motor function to the weapon. So I drew up some more thumbnails that look like have been made from gardening tools, such as lawn mowers, strimmers etc.
After taking inspiration from the artwork from Bethesda's Fallout Series and Anton Kukhtytskyi's artwork, as well a couple of thumbnail ideas, I cam up with a makeshift chainsaw weapon made out of bicycle parts.
For my Honours Project in University, I have decided to focus on weapon design. The theme I have chosen is Post Apocalyptic Makeshift Weapons. I wanted to do something different than the weapons that you see in zombie-themed games, TV and films. An example would be the common spiked baseball bat, wrapped in barbed wire and iron nails.
I wanted to create something new and interesting but has been made out of everyday objects. This is my first melee weapon design for my Honours Project. It is a makeshift hand-cranked chainsaw made out of a girl's bicycle, an electric bike motor and house keys which are used as the teeth on the chain. In relation to the materials that the weapon is crafted from, I gave it it's comical name, "Lancer Armstrong".
